Weaving beautiful textiles for you to treasure.
We are passionate about weaving New Zealand
wool into beautiful fabrics for fashion and interiors.
Crafted with respect,
woven with love, textiles to treasure
We are Rod and Sue McLean, working together as McLean & Co., using heritage looms and locally sourced wool to bring you ethically produced, traditionally woven and stitched textile products.
Our textiles are all woven by us, in our weaving shed in Oamaru, New Zealand, on our very rare George Hattersley & Sons looms, designed in 1895 and manufactured in the early 20th century.
We take pride in our craftsmanship, our beautiful woollen textiles and what we make from them.
Our Collections
When you purchase a McLean & Co, you buy a piece that is timeless, classic, sustainable and 100% NZ made.
We specialize in weaving limited edition collections of fabric using NZ wool and other natural fibres, creating products that are kind to people, animals and our planet.
We create textiles that tell a story about time and place, and are treasured for their integrity. Every collection is inspired by our environment and the things we love.
Crafted for you, by us, with love.
People often ask about how we became weavers. Rod fell in love with what he calls the "simple mechanics" of the looms so we bought them and shipped them to Oamaru where he restored them and taught himself to weave. Sue has always had an affinity with textiles, and weaving appealed to her sense of storytelling through design, colour and custodianship of traditional textile artistry.
We weave using a Hattersley Domestic Weaving System, which includes three cast iron looms and a warping mill that are operated by hand and feet, and is possibly the only set of its kind left in the world.
What our customers say
Our customers are the most important part of our journey, and word of mouth is the most valuable feedback we can receive.
