caring for your mclean & co.
McLean & Co. textiles are an investment,
to be treasured, and used for years to come, if treated with care.
Every McLean & Co. item comes with care instructions on the attached information card,
but it may be helpful to read the following. Please contact us if you are unsure.
Avoid sharp objects.
Avoid sharp objects which may snag your McLean & Co. However, if this happens, a thread can easily be stitched back in place. Sometimes just by simply stretching the material around the edge of the snag, it is possible to return the loose thread to its rightful place
Pilling
Pilling is something that sometimes occurs and is often incorrectly associated with poor yarn quality, but it is a natural and inevitable result of friction on textile fibres.
High-quality, natural fibers are more prone to pilling as they have very fine, delicate fibers, and are frequently spun with a looser, softer twist to maximize comfort and drape.
Simply use a depiller of your choice when necessary.
DO NOT MACHINE WASH OR TUMBLE DRY!!
Air Regularly: Often, simply hanging the item in a well-ventilated will refresh it.
Spot Clean: Treat small spills or stains immediately by gently blotting with cold water and a mild, wool-safe detergent.
De-Pill: Small fabric balls (pilling) are normal. Gently remove them with a fabric shaver or a wool comb.
Rest: Allow wool garments to "rest" for 24 hours between wears so the natural fibers can recover their shape.
We recommend hand washing our products.
Use cool or lukewarm water: around 30°C/body temperature
Use a wool detergent: Use mild, pH-neutral detergent specifically formulated for wool or delicates.
Soak Gently: Soak for about 10–30 minutes, then gently swish it around.
Rinse Thoroughly: Rinse with cool, clean water until all soap residue is gone.
Remove Water: Gently press the item with your hands and roll it in a clean, dry towel to absorb excess water.
Dry Flat: Air dry flat, in its original shape.
Iron with Steam: Use the wool setting on your iron.
Store Folded: Fold and store flat in drawers or on shelves.
Deter Moths: By storing clean items in breathable cotton bags with natural moth deterrents like cedar balls or lavender sachets. Avoid airtight plastic for long-term storage, as it traps moisture.
